What is AFFIRM? AFFIRM is a process group working towards acceptance through education and open discussion of LGBTQ+ life experiences. Several Clinical Psychology doctoral students in the Psy.D. program serve as co-leaders for the group. We are under the supervision of Dr. Michael McClellan. AFFIRM is a closed group. Once the group officially starts, no new members may join for that semester’s cycle.
When does it happen? This is a weekly group held each semester.
Where does it happen? We have held this group both in person and virtually through Zoom. In-person group meetings occur in the Cammack Building on EKU’s campus.
How many people are in the group? We have run the group with as few as 2 people and as many as 5.
How do I apply? Each potential member must go through a screening interview process before officially joining the group. Please contact Megan Thomas at email@example.com if interested in participating. This screening process typically occurs for two weeks near the start of each semester. After all screening interviews are done and group members are confirmed, then no new members may join AFFIRM and they must wait until the next semester group to apply.
Are there any special conditions to apply? Group members may be members of the EKU community and surrounding areas. You must be at least 18 years old in order to participate in this group. You do not need to be an established client at the EKU Psychology Clinic in order to participate.
What does it cost? AFFIRM is a free group.
